Fireworks

I have fireworks. The 5th November is, obv, you douche, bonfire night. This of course means lots and lots and lots and lots of fireworks. Fireworks go bang bang and make pretty sparks and stuff. They make lots of smoke and, usually, smell pretty good.

So yeah. Will and I got together, and decided to buy fireworks. Lots of them, and big ones of course. Last year he went down to this firework factory and got a whole load for bonfire night and new year, and this year we ordered some from the same factory from the internet.

We spent about £100 (we got some of those Tesco selection boxes too) in total. Massive mines, rockets, roman candles and stuff. And loads of little ones to fill in the gaps.

I can’t wait until 5th November…

Back 3 School

Tuesday is my first day back at school after the summer holiday. It will take a week or so to get settled back in, then after that I will probably be in some kind of routine, and will be used to writing again, so this blog is sure to see some more life.

Being off school is so good.

Opinion

Jimmy Carr

I went to see Jimmy Carr last night, to his show called “Gag Reflex”.

If you want a review, search The Google because I can’t be bothered writing one. However, that man is funny. Very funny. And he made a joke about Lidl (“You know what Africa needs, all those starving people? A Lidl”), so my respect for him went right through the roof.

If you ever get the chance to go and see him live, do it!

I Know: My Thoughts On Piracy

5 minutes after posting my previous… post, and after watching an epi(n)sode of Jerry Jackson, I am finally read to put the fingers to the keys, so to speak, and to start writing. Tomorrow, in my exam, I shall be writing formally, putting across my views in about 1000 words, in about an hour (slightly longer). As that it was I try to do with my blog, it should not be too hard, but I have not done so in a while, and my fingers may be a bit rusty.

We are reminded constantly – whether it be a short segment at the beginning of a DVD, or a sticker when you buy a music CD – that piracy of copyrighted content is wrong. Yet, as is clear from looking at just a few of the online communities who share such material between one another, it is clear that many thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands or even more, are ignoring these warnings, and deciding to download videos, audio or programs illegally. However, is what these people are doing an immoral and should it be a criminal act, or is it harmless, and not at all wrong?

To tackle this problem, we first have to consider why copyright law is in place. [Note, I’ve just taken 25 mins doing nothing :(. Better not do that tomorrow]. Copyright law is enforced to protect the owners and creators of valuable work. Films, TV Shows and music all take time and money to create and distribute, and in order to continue doing so, these people want to be paid and make a profit.

This is bad, I’m tired and I’ll just give up. I’ll delete this tomorrow anyway.

My main points were:

  • Copyright is to make money for makers of content
  • People download for two reasons:
    • Greed
    • Lack of money
  • Greed, yeah that’s bad
  • But not having money to spend, why not? If someone has no money for DVDs, why shouldn’t they pirate content when they want to watch something.
  • No one loses out, poor person gains, and perhaps even the copyright person when the users gets money
  • There’s also the idea that it is like home recording, if we can do that, why not download instead so we can watch on our computers?

I would have rambled on for a while. Piracy just for the hell of it, I believe, is wrong. But if you’re doing it when you have no money, or when it’s no different to taping a program, I don’t see there being anything wrong with that.

But that’s a load of shit, eh.

Examobiles

Since Friday, I have been off school on exam leave. I have until 28th May – when I return to school – just to take it easy, chill out, and take exams for my 8 subjects. So, over that time, I shall be playing lots of CS:S, watching lots on my new XBMC contraption, and also popping into school every now and then for an exam.

Technological Studies was my first exam, which was today. Tomorrow is English, then on Wednesday it’s Computing, followed by 5 days of nothing.

This is really the life. But, anyway, to prepare for one of my papers that is happening tomorrow, my English Writing paper, I shall now just open a new window, and write something, and then post it in an hour just before Prison Break is on.
